The Bees (True story)

Sun Nov 9, 2008, 5:54 PM
This actually happened to me, a couple of weeks back.

So here I am.

The setting: Work. I work at an ISP, I'm in the reception office, answering phones. (I'm a call centre monkey.)

Normally, I'd be in the call centre, impatiently waiting for people to call. But today, I'm in the reception office.

So, what's led to this STAGGERINGLY UNCANNY TURN OF EVENTS?

I arrived at work at 4:45 pm. Right when I'm supposed to. Strangely, I parked out the front today. I don't normally, as out the front of my ISP offices is a main street. On the other side of which is a Pub, Bowling Alley/Night Club, and a Motorcycle store. The patrons of which I do not trust to be around my car.

However, if I had driven my car around the back (involving travelling out of the CBD, turning onto a dirt track, then driving all the way back to my store) I would have arrived late. Which is rather rude to the person supposed to finish at 5.

So anyway, I parked out the front and came in the front door.

I enter the reception area and... Strangely... my coworker, who should be in the call centre with his feet up on the desk generally looking lazy, is sitting behind the reception desk. Quite un-strangely, he's on the phone. (This is not strange but it IS rather important, in part because it is his job to talk on the phone, and in part because it leads into the next bit.)

Interestingly, rather than giving a cool nod to my expression of mild confusion and vague interest (at why he is sitting in reception on the phone rather than being in the call centre on the phone), he gestures at me, somewhat frantically, and indicates for me to wait until he's off the phone.

My curiosity piqued, I put down my ribs(delicious, or so I thought, pork ribs from a local pizza joint) and my bag of crap (DVDs, drinks and chocolate to see me through the next 5 hours.), and I sit down, in one of the reception chairs, to wait. Strangely, the door to the call centre is closed. (This may not seem strange, but it is because we normally keep it open.) There is also a printer advertisement on plasti-card sitting upside down, and facing away from me, at the bottom of the call centre door.

Coworker finally finishes on the phone. "Hey." he says in greeting. Apparently, since I'm doing what he wanted me to do, there is no need to be in the least bit frantic anymore.

"So, um..." I say, gesturing to him, the desk, and the closed call centre door.

At this point he tells me "Yeah, there's a bees nest in the call centre roof!"

Normally, this wouldn't be too much of an issue, one simply is not required to crawl into the roof space when one works in a call centre. Where a bees nest does become a problem though is in this particular building, as the ceiling has been artistically designed using a great many (strangley bee sized) holes. These factors resulted in the call centre, playing guest to a large number of rather confused bees. (Confused because they headed towards the light thinking they were going outside, and ended up in a call centre. And that would confuse anyone.)

As it is nearly 5:00, and will soon be getting dark, my immeasurably helpful coworker says "Should probably turn the lights on." And promptly does so.

Within minutes, the bees, emboldened by this new source of light(which must surely be the great outside, in which it did not occur to them to build their nest) begin charging towards the lights (which are down-lights set into the ceiling. Down-lights actually provide quite a bit of light above the ceiling as well as below.) and pushing their way through the holes to get to the light.

It is at this point that my coworker says "Well ****." and then leaves.

I turn off the lights again, and kill the bees who have come into reception. I also go and kill the bee that has decided that the stairway light is a really awesome thing.

So now, here I am, sitting in a dark reception office, pretending it's a call centre, and hiding from the bees who have taken over the call centre and I'm wondering, should I have parked around the back today?

Just what the HELL does a jet powered mushroom do

Sun Oct 29, 2006, 5:38 AM
Ok, so...

I just completed the first ever installment of "Jetshroom."

And I'm happy with it, I can see myself doing a series of small 4 panel comics like that featuring jetshroom. However, I have to ask myself, 'Just what the HELL does a jet powered mushroom do ANYWAY?!?'

Sure, he can suddenly and inexplicably evolve behind a tool shed but that's about as far as it goes. On top of that, I think it's going to be something of a challenge to draw a comic where the main character is a mute mushroom.

"Sure he can evolve and develop rocket fuel, but he can't evolve a mouth! *idiot*"

So anyway, if anyone has any suggestions as to what adventures a Jet powered mushroom could have, please, let me know.

Oh the trials...

Tue Aug 1, 2006, 3:16 AM
Ah yes, the trials of being a modern artist are great indeed. I recently(artisticly speaking; this is actually over 6 months ago now) upgraded my computer system so as to cater for the 3D rendering I would be doing at uni(versity).

Now, being an IT student I naturally backed up ALL my information to be carried over to the new system. Only to have just recently found out that the dis has become corrupted, losing all the data contained.

Honestly this wasn't a big deal until just this evening. I have once again been listening to music and as I have no high workload at the moment I was drawing, naturally the creative juices were flowing and I came up with a quite excellent addition to a picture I had been working on on my old system. One that had taken many hours to get to the stage it was at. MANY HOURS.

Of course the disk I had created was corrupted so I no longer have this particular work of total genious on said disk. However fortune smiled on me, I was certain I had mentioned this image on DA and possibly uploaded it, at least giving me a copy of the actual image...

No. I didn't upload a copy because I was waiting for the finished product.

By now I am throwing a fit, the only thing I have left is a single sketch, very basic and skeletal, in an obscure page of a sketch book. I know it exists... I drew it, It has to exist...

But as many artists know, "It's in a sketchbook," isn't very specific to an artist. And my personal friends will know the state of my room. this means, single image == needle in haystack. I had to sift my way through 10 Sketchbooks of varying age to find the damn thing.

And yes I did find it.

It is practically unusable, it had undergone so many alterations in photoshop that it is no longer the image it once was. So now all I have is a (VERY BAD) rough sketch of some guy with a guitar.

I guess I have to work from scratch.

End rant!

My God, Pushing Three months...

Mon Feb 27, 2006, 5:43 PM
Well, it's been three months since my last submission... What's been going on? Well, firstly I have been on holiday from uni and as such have been away from my computer meaning I can's sit for hours and push out some art. Now that I'm back at uni however...

I HAVE NO COMPUTER!!!

I'm currently waiting on my new system. I'm taking some 3D subjects this year so I had to get a new system so that I can put in the 300 hours to pass. I don't know when I'll be getting my computer but once I do, there'll be a flood of sketches I have done in the last 3 months.

I am currently working on a new Manga idea also, As yet unnamed, it follows the story of 'Sail' who is on a quest to find the 7 holy musics. There's some art that I have to upload so more detials with that.

'Helm', one of the bad guys, is giving me grief. The prick looks good in everything but none of the costumes work.

Here's hoping my computer comes soon.

Well, it's been a while...

I've finished my exams, and despite what I thought, I haven't had a rush of inspiration. Just a couple of character designs then nothing. I'm probably still winding down.

First up: On the drawing board is a couple of pictures, one, the same that I've been at for the past month. Still going slowly. I need to finish it. I WANT TO FINISH IT!!!
Two and three are character designs that I've done. Just sketches at the moment. I might ps them.

Next up: With Xmas rapidly approaching like a runaway freight train, I've got a metric crapload of shopping to do but between that I was thinking of doing an Xmas pic. Either Santa's Ice Fortress, or the Christmas Vampire. Don't know which yet. Maybe both.

Potential stuff: Now that I'm on holiday I may end up working on 'The Inn' , my manga. Will see what happens.

Finally: Happy Impending Birthday to Lynda-Chan.

Ciao. ^_^
